About this event
The VRARA Alberta Chapter is excited to welcome Maria Manese from Bow Vally College to share the ways that they are utilizing virtual and augmented reality. Maria Manese, Program Chair – Nursing in Bow Valley College, is passionate about the use of technology to elevate learning experiences beyond textbooks in the classroom. In her work with nursing faculty and students using Virtual Reality in adult health assessment, she has seen an increase in digital literacy and mastery in health assessments.
The event will include a presentation followed by a structured Q&A, demos and networking.
Food and Soft-drinks will be provided free of charge to those that show up in time

Lloyd Summers from Calgary based Red Iron Labs will be sharing how Red Iron uses video game design to develop high-quality custom VR Safety Training simulations, which increase health and safety for industrial based organizations and workers. There will be a short presentation followed by a Q&A open to the audience.
Lloyd Summers is Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Red Iron Labs. Lloyd is currently focused on multimedia and creative technologies (such as Video Games, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality). Previous experience areas include Mobile Development, Project Management, IoT and Technical Analysis. Lloyd has been primarily self-taught, starting at the age of 10 and has since created and published over 200 mobile titles and games, and currently leads a development team that has executed over 30 immersive application projects for companies across various sectors including Healthcare, Energy, Defense, Transportation & Logistics, Real Estate, Marketing and Video Games.

On Saturday, December 2, three Calgary Public Library locations will be transformed for Star Wars Day: The Library Strikes Back.
This fun one-day event — a free all-ages celebration of all things Star Wars — is your chance to celebrate the upcoming launch of the movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Come complete with costume because family-friendly cosplay is strongly encouraged!
Whether you choose the dark side or the light, the Library will have fun activities for all Star Wars fans:
- Explore craft stations to create a Star Wars snowflake, build a papercraft porg, or colour an ewok ornament;
- Pose for a picture with the stormtroopers of the 501st Legion;
- Meet a life-size R2-D2 at the following times and locations
- 12-12:30 pm at Saddletowne Library
- 1:30-2 pm at Central Library
- 3-3:30 pm at Shawnessy Library
- Learn to program mini versions of the movie droids: R2-D2, BB-8, R2-Q5, and BB-9E;
- Discover our awesome Star Wars collections including books, graphic novels, and movies;
- Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality demonstrations hosted by VizworX and the VR/AR Association.
