Pinnacle Solution’s Virtual Maintenance Trainer (VMT)

Pinnacle Solutions, Inc.’s (Pinnacle) Virtual X Training (VXT©) products provide sophisticated, computer-based training environments that deliver realistic and accurate engagement with true to life virtual hardware. VXT© products bring the engagement of real-world training to the modern student in any setting.

Through the integration of commercial off-the-shelf software, custom processes, and development tools, the VXT© Core framework creates a powerful capability to support any user’s virtual training requirement. The VXT© core framework has been designed to support rapid prototyping and production of any vehicle, device, or aircraft, and can be customized to include English language familiarization or translations into any end-user language.

Far too often, today’s maintenance personnel receive instruction and training that remains virtually unchanged from decades ago. As aircraft, vehicles, and equipment have advanced, those responsible for maintenance continue to be trained with antiquated materials and outdated training methods. The primary means of training continue to be schematics, classroom instruction, component cut-a-ways, and on-aircraft training.

Pinnacle’s VMTs solve these limitations by making use of high-fidelity virtual 3D models of aircraft, vehicles, and equipment to deliver comprehensive qualification training to new maintainers or to provide sustainment training for experienced users. Furthermore, hardware simulation facilitates a training experience that reacts to correct or incorrect maintenance performance, allowing students to make mistakes, receive feedback, and perform corrective actions as they would on the real hardware.

With the VMT, Pinnacle provides lessons that are available in instructor-led extended introduction (e.g. “basic” or “guided”) mode, instruction/check-on-learning (i.e. “intermediate”) mode, and faults/evaluation (i.e. “advanced”) mode. The extended introduction mode allows the student to perform maintenance procedures correctly, demonstrating step-by-step instruction, proper tool use, and true-to-life actions required to perform a given task. The intermediate and advanced modes include checks on learning, troubleshooting faults, and evaluation. The modes challenge the student to complete a self-paced assessment accurately, grading task performance in a full virtual simulation of the task hardware.

The VMT is a cost-effective solution for any customer, offering a completely scalable solution that can augment or replace traditional and expensive hardware-based maintenance training devices. The VMT can be installed on a wide range of commercially available devices, and updates can be developed rapidly at a fraction of the procurement and sustainment costs for a hardware-based solution. The VMT approach to training eliminates dependencies on custom hardware, reduces the risk of damage to operational equipment, improves safety, and eliminates wear and tear on actual components. Additionally, Pinnacle’s authored lessons and comprehensive 3D models deliver an all-encompassing, tailored training environment.
