Katy Rupp: VR/AR: Bridging the Gap between the Intangible and the Built Environment

Presenter: Katy Rupp, Ghafari Associates Presentation Synopsis: Virtual reality and augmented reality, like many technologies, began as a concept of experiencing intangible objects and environments digitally. As technology progressed, that concept became a reality and has transformed into a multibillion dollar industry that allows the real world to be virtualized and augmented. In today’s AEC industry, architects, engineers, and owners have to deal with intangible project concepts, such as how people experience time and space in the built environment. This presentation looks at the past, present and future of VR / AR in the AEC industry to address the question of how we can use VR / AR to design and develop environments that produce outcomes that better serve the users that inhabit them. Bio: As one of Ghafari’s leading champions of virtual reality technologies, Architectural Designer Katy Rupp is skilled at developing highly immersive visuals that enable project stakeholders to virtually explore the physical environments we design long before they are ever constructed. She leads internal VR training and has also presented and demoed these technologies at a variety of industry forums, including most recently at the 2018 AIA Detroit Celebration of Architecture as part of the Technology in Architecture Practice / Detroit Area BIM User Group exhibit. Katy joined Ghafari in 2014 and has developed a portfolio that includes healthcare, automotive, hospitality, commercial, residential, and education-sector projects. She holds a Master of Architecture from Boston Architectural College and a Bachelor of Science in architecture from Lawrence Technological University.

Marlo Brooke: Enterprise XR: how to Scale your XR applications from Design to Post-Production, to Increase Quality, Sales and Profit

Presenter: Marlo Brooke, CEO & Founder Presentation Synopsis: XR has evolved to a maturity level that can transform employee training and performance, product design, engineering, quality, critical data collection, data use at the point of need, and ultimately, improve customer satisfaction. Jason Welsh: Embracing XR within the Enterprise

Presenter: Jason Welsh, Managing Director, Extended Reality (XR) Presentation Synopsis: Enterprise XR Spending is expected to reach $13.1B in 2019 (Source: SuperData). So where are they spending all of that money? And are they getting the value out of this level of investment in XR? We are seeing spending across the entire value chain of an enterprise including functional areas such as Product Design, Build/ Operate/ Move/ Service, Learning, B2B Sales and Marketing, Digital Workplace, and a variety of ways to enable Insights/Decision Making based on specific industry needs. We are also seeing an increase in demand with enterprise buyers with the influx of new devices, new platforms, more proof points of ROI, and the promise of 5G. In this talk, Mr. Welsh will provide insights into what Accenture is seeing in terms of where our clients are spending money in these various areas and, in particularly, what are the keys for them to move from pilot usage of XR technology to larger scale deployments. Bio: Jason is a proven executive with over 25 years of experience in the area of digital strategy, marketing, technology, and innovation. He has experience serving clients across a range of industries with a particular emphasis on retail, consumer goods, entertainment, and technology. His roles have included strategic account management, business development, strategy consulting, solution architecture, general management, and innovation/research leader. He currently is Managing Director developing Accenture's Extended Reality practice globally, delivering augmented reality, mixed reality and virtual reality across enterprise and consumer segments for our clients.

Stephanie Llamas: Exploring Opportunities on XR's Next Frontier

Presenter: Stephanie Llamas, Vice President of Research and Strategy and Head of XR for SuperData Presentation Synopsis: While much of the attention around XR has been focused on consumer-facing entertainment applications, these technologies hold massive potential to disrupt the enterprise market. The fact is VR and AR/MR stand ready to fundamentally transform how businesses train employees, design products and run sales/marketing operations. In this session, SuperData's Stephanie Llamas will present a snapshot of current R&D investment, XR usage by industry and common business use cases. Attendees will walk away with a clearer-than-ever view of the enterprise XR landscape and the opportunities sitting on the frontier's horizon. Jonathan Moss: Transforming Learning in Retail with VR/AR

Presenter: Jonathan Moss, Sprint Presentation Synopsis: Corporations invested $87.6B (Source: Training Magazine) on Training in 2018. Current technology and design in the industry makes learning dull, costly, and restricts the ability to learn in an effective way. Investing in AR/VR/MR can help solve all of these problems, while helping learners increase knowledge retention and speed up their time to competency. Training/Educating employees has the most use cases and greatest potential for the technology according to a study done by Harvard Business Review. However, many Retail companies have not implemented or even put this technology on their roadmap. In this talk, we will review our learning strategy and use cases for the Retail environment. Bio: Jonathan and his team's purpose is to UNLEASH PEOPLE’S POTENTIAL by evolving the experience (partners and customers) and growth of Sprint's consumer sales organization through learning and sales enablement. Concurrently, they are taking on the industry through the utilization of technology to disrupt and design learning that is different from what we have experienced today. They are on a mission to eliminate boring and ineffective learning! Jonathan has had the pleasure of leading teams up to 250 that span the entire country with operating revenues of $14B. They have implemented strategies that changed the growth trajectory of people & results through leadership & employee development programs, redesigning sales processes, integrating technology for improved customer journeys & cost saving efficiencies, creating operating models that optimize profitability, & executing on the fundamentals of business.
